A checkmark in this column indicates that the member is enrolled in the federal Scrapie Eradication Program and has a Scrapie Premises I.D. Number. The significance of this is that a sheep cannot be legally transported across State lines unless that sheep is tagged with an offical Scrapie tag that displays the breeder's Premises I.D. Number.
Scrapie is a fatal, degenerative disease affecting the central nervous system of sheep and goats. There is no cure and there is no treatment for scrapie. The Scrapie Eradication Program requires this identification system so that diseased, exposed, and high-risk sheep can be traced back to their flock of origin to prevent the spread of scrapie.
